Ascension Lutheran Church hosts several recovery groups for the Thousand Oaks area during the week. Although we are not affiliated with the groups and cannot provide specific contact information regarding their meetings, each group welcomes new attendees and would be happy for you to join them for their scheduled meetings.
The Al-Anon and Alateen family groups are a fellowship of relatives and friends of alcoholics who share their experience, strength and hope in order to solve their common problems. They believe alcoholism is a family illness, and that changed attitudes can aid recovery. Al-Anon and Alateen have but one purpose: to help families and friends of alcoholics. They do this by practicing the Twelve Steps, by welcoming and giving comfort to families of alcoholics, and by giving understanding and encouragement to the alcoholic.
Meets Saturdays, 10:00 a.m. in the Bethlehem Room.
Adult Children of Alcoholics is an anonymous Twelve Step, Twelve Tradition program of women and men who grew up in an alcoholic, or otherwise dysfunctional home. They meet with each other in a mutually respectful, safe environment and acknowledge their common experiences. They discover how childhood affected them in the past and influences them in the present and take positive action.
Meets Mondays, 6:00 p.m. in the Modular
Co-Dependents Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women whose common purpose is to develop healthy relationships. They gather together to support and share with each other in a journey of self-discovery – learning to love the self. Living the program allows each of them to become increasingly honest with themselves about their personal histories and their own codependent behaviors. They rely upon the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions for knowledge and wisdom.
Meets Fridays, 7:30 p.m. in the Library.
The primary purpose of an NA group is to carry the message of recovery to the addict who still suffers. The group provides each member with the opportunity to share and to hear the experience of other addicts who are learning to live a better way of life without the use of drugs. The group is the primary vehicle by which their message is carried. It provides a setting in which a newcomer can identify with recovering addicts and find an atmosphere of recovery. Two groups meet weekly at Ascension.
Women’s Group – Meets Sundays, 7:00 p.m. in the Library
